To your point – Pumpkin pie is often made without much pumpkin at all because they don’t have much flavor. Most pumpkin purées are made primarily with other types of winter squashes like butternut, Hubbard, Boston Marrow, and Golden Delicious. These squash varieties can be less stringy and richer in sweetness and color than pumpkin.
